Who would ever have thought that wedding cake toppers would be stealing the show at reception halls all over North America? Imagine people saying ” Did you see that cake topper?” or ” I loved that cake topper, did you notice the bride’s gown, I can’t remember what it looked like?” It certainly is strange. However, it’s true. The last four weddings I’ve been to have featured these outlandish cake toppers. One cake supported a 24″ figure of the church where the couple wed. Before you know it the toppers will be bigger than the cakes. They are getting so elaborate that some are being stolen by the guests.

The fact is everytime I visit BC, I keep feeling my back pocket for my wallet. The people there are so incredibly nice and accommodating that I suspect I am being set up to be robbed or something worse. I am working on getting rid of this paranoia since I am looking at condos for sale in Winnipeg. I can’t go on with this foolish fear if I am going to live there permanently. It feels great to be realizing a dream I’ve had for many years. It took a certain wonderful canadian beauty to get me to finally make the move.

I don’t know if it is only my conception or if everyone seems to think that as we evolve, we create more and more issues to get upset about. I feel that when I was a child and we only got about an hour of news each evening on TV and we were less aware of all the negativity in the world, life was less confrontational and troublesome. I remember when all wedding cake toppers were a man and a woman in tux and gown and you didn’t have to decide anything. Now you have to select from hundreds if not thousands of selections. I also notice that making decisions often leads to miscommunication and someone, if not all concerned, ends up angry.

It is a natural human emotion to become angry when something you are promised does not come to fruition. It is each individual’s responsibility to use that anger in as positive a way as possible. For example if you are running an event and 100 people agree to attend and you bear the expense for the 100, only to have 65 show up would easily get you both angry and disappointed. Instead of flying off the handle, you should acquire event management software to prepare for your next event. Feel the anger. Let it ebb. Then seek how to avoid in in the future. Very often it is almost impossible to control one’s anger. I recently had an experience that I really don’t know if I will ever find peace with. My six year old niece was at a sleep over at a schoolmate’s home. My sister, her mother, and I were a bit skeptical about the family she would be spending the night with. It was due to their reputation related with being of the modern school of letting children freely express themselves. After endless prodding, my sister caved and allowed my niece to join the other five girls. That evening we got a call from the parents telling us they were at the local hospital because the girls were involved in chemical mixing in their garage and there was an explosion. My niece had superficial burns on her arms but one of the sweet little six year old girls lost an eye. How do we let go of that?

I realize it is easier said than done to ask someone to control his or her anger. Anger is an unpredictable emotion. What riles me up may very well seem trivial to you. It’s sort of like one man’s junk is another man’s treasure. I was with a friend in Canada recently and we were considering the purchase of one of the Winnipeg condos we saw. She was totally angered by the fact that she saw a published price for the units and they were considerably higher when we got there. I tried to explain to her that the prevailing recession in the States wasn’t necessarily as bad in Canada. I explained that the advertisement she saw months ago was no longer relevant.
